A fabric that takes you to Japan

Japanese chambray holds a special place in our collection—we’ve been working with it for over a decade.

We chose this one for the irregular grain of its fabric, woven from a blue thread and an ecru thread whose shades vary slightly. This subtle variation creates rich visual depth and highlights multiple irregularities across the surface.

Slowly woven on vintage machines, small cotton fibers rise to the surface, giving the fabric a slightly fuzzy, soft appearance.

With time and wear, this shirt will truly become yours, developing a patina and revealing lighter areas on points of tension and friction.

This supple, comfortable 5oz (170 g/m²) cloth is the fruit of Japanese expertise from Nomura, who has been spinning, dyeing, and weaving exceptional fabrics for more than a century.
